In 1925, Alabama native Helen Keller addressed a Lions International convention, asking the Lions to become “Knights of the Blind”. More than 80 years later, the Lions are still fighting to end preventable blindness.
Through hard work and tireless dedication the Lions Clubs of Alabama are able to raise approximately 60% of the revenue that is needed for Alabama Lions Sight to operate and provide patient services to those most in need in Alabama. Through projects ranging from East-West Baseball games to pancake breakfasts, from selling Boston butts and hosting beauty pageants, the Lions are able to fulfill their number one mission – preserving and restoring sight.
Alabama Lions Sight also raises funds through various projects such as Candy Day and the Holiday Peanut Sale. Candy Day is an annual event where Lions Club members hand out Lions candy and accept donations on behalf of Alabama Lions Sight. The Holiday Peanut Sale occurs in the fall and Lions Clubs throughout Alabama sell bags of shelled peanuts to raise funds for Alabama Lions Sight.
In addition, Alabama Lions Sight receives grants from others in the community. Foundations like the EyeSight Foundation of Alabama and corporations such as BlueCross BlueShield of Alabama provide funding to help us fulfill our mission of serving those in need.
Alabama Lions Sight appreciates those who raise and contribute money to help us fulfill our mission of saving sight.
